NAPTOSA wishes to welcome Ms Shamila Batohi in her position as the new National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) - a position that she took up on 1 February 2018.

We have no doubt that a daunting task awaits her. The country is waiting with bated breath to see her lead the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in tackling the high profile cases that is already on her desk, but also the ones that should emanate from the Commissions of Enquiry into State Capture and the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).

Ms Batohi’s remarks on her first day in office is very encouraging. Committing the NPA not only to fight the scourge of corruption, but to win the fight, must be saluted. Her vision for a NPA with committed and professional staff resonates well with NAPTOSA as our organization is based on these very values.

The work of the NPA from here on in will no doubt face the full scrutiny of the media and civil society. Also NAPTOSA will closely watch to see whether there are going to be any prosecutorial action against those persons that might have been involved in corrupt practices at the PIC.

As a union, we wish Ms Batohi everything of the best and a successful career as the new NDPP.
